About the project
We are a group of 15 volunteers who will be travelling to Nepal in November to help rebuild and renovate a school in the remote village of Sermathang. This blog will follow our fundraising and work on the project.
Yangrima School, Nepal
Before 1915 Nepal was closed to foreign tourists and international development agencies, and until 1964, travel to this wonderful and mystical land was exclusively an attraction for the hardy climbers and explorers of the unimaginable.
In recent years, travels to this land of adventure have become more popular for all kinds of travelers. In its immensely diverse and rolling landscape, varied climate and mix of people combine to produce a magical attraction for visitors.
Yangrima School
Yangrima School was built in 1985 and was run as a community managed school until 2000 when it was blown up by Maoist rebels. Now it is derelict. Reopening the school has only become possible recently thanks to a rapidly improving political environment and ex students who have come back to provide tomorrow’s generations with the same opportunities they had 10 years ago.
As a result of the school being derelict poor children have been deprived of any schooling and have no options to better their opportunities in life.
Following the completion of our FutureBuilding project, the school will be fit for re-open and so we will officially re-open the school before we leave. This will pave the way for further improvements to be made to the school by future teams.
